about
Tempo is my first release since 2020. And I am glad that this work happens in collaboration, and with such a close-to-me musician as Vilhelm. The idea to write something together came up when we met in March. Vilhelm was one of the first people I met when I arrived in Copenhagen, one of the first people to become a home, who supported me at the beginning of the large-scale war. And he still remains one of the most valuable treasures I found in Denmark, a real friend.
When it was time to go to the studio, we started with little sketches on guitars and lyrics that I wrote more than a year ago. In the process, sounds and words were transformed into something new, acquired additional details and shades, and new meanings. The recording took place at the Copenhagen Conservatory, (Rhythmic Music Conservatory), one of the best musical educational institutions in Denmark. It is a place in a quiet part of Copenhagen, where next door to the conservatory there is the Danish Film University, the alma mater of Lars Von Trier, the director who once was very dear to me.
Tempo is not a story about something specific, it is a state of getting used to time and circumstances when relationships even with the dearest people are questioned. There are no conclusions here, only the state of research is unstable, uneven, but the most honest.
The single comes out as a part of the cooperation camp 'Music is an answer', a project by the Ukraine Music Export in the frames of MusicAIRE (An Innovative Recovery for Europe), which is an EU-funded project that aims to provide tailored-made instruments for the sector and contribute to a green, digital, just, and resilient recovery of the music ecosystem.
(The project is developed with the support of Music Export Ukraine in the framework of MusicAIR project and is funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union and therefore the European Union cannot be held responsible for them.)
lyrics
Tempo
I learn this tempo.
I learn this tempo.
We slow down then we rush.
I learn this tempo.
They are searching for the signs
Of their existence in my lines
What can I tell them?
A mixture of their wishes and my wishes Looks ugly
No rhythm, no pattern.
They climb on it as, if it was a tree.
They drink of it as, if it was a well to cease their thirst.
They see it when their favorite song is playing. They stop to see it when the song meets the end.
I learn this tempo.
I learn this tempo.
We slow down then we rush.
I learn this tempo.

sophistication. is a project of the Ukrainian artist Sofia Shvager, currently based in Copenhagen,
Denmark.
In her music, she combines an acoustic guitar with a piercing voice making quite a minimalistic and calming sound. She enriches her sound with elements from different genres to create a slow city-meditation with her stories, a bit dark and melancholy but quite and warm....more
